Final Days of Freedom: Hong Kong Documentary Exposes Struggle for Democracy
JULY 1, 2024. – LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – Award-winning cinematographer and director Sean Fleck, along with producer Alan Parks, unveil their latest documentary, “Hong Kong – Final Days of Freedom” – a gripping exploration of Hong Kong’s battle for democracy following the protests that exploded forth after the extradition bill proposed in 2019, and the controversial National
Security Law that followed.
Featuring exclusive interviews with protestors, professors, politicians, and activists, the film sheds light on how the controversial law has transformed this vibrant international business mecca into a Chinese-controlled police state.
“Final Days of Freedom” unveils a firsthand account of the Hong Kong protests in a compelling narrative that captures the essence of a city in turmoil. The documentary promises to be a poignant and eye-opening experience for viewers as it unravels the impact of the National Security Law on the lives of Hong Kong’s people.
A seasoned professional in the film industry, director Sean Fleck brings a unique perspective to this powerful narrative. Speaking on the inspiration behind “Final Days of Freedom,” Fleck reflects:
“My first trip to Hong Kong was in 2014, and I fell in love with the intense skyline, the people, and the culture. No city ever gripped me like Hong Kong did. In 2019, when the extradition bill protests broke out, I traveled back to document the growing pro-democracy movement.
“The Hong Kong protests were the most inspiring, scariest, and reflective part of my life all rolled into one. I hope you watch this story of brutal repression by the CCP in Hong Kong, and experience what millions of Hong Kongers experienced as their beloved city was turned into a dystopian nightmare after the passing of the National Security Law.”
Fleck’s work, showcased on renowned networks such as Discovery Network, History Channel, A&E, and BET, has established him as a respected figure in the industry. After graduating from the University of Miami with a degree in Motion Pictures & Sociology, Fleck founded Easystream Networks – one of the first live-streaming media services to offer production
services – in 1999. “Final Days of Freedom” has already garnered significant acclaim, boasting twenty prestigious awards and securing its place as a semifinalist for six more. The documentary has been selected for 40 official film festivals, attesting to its compelling narrative and the urgency of the issues it explores.
